Nate took his first steps 11/1/09. At first it was just a step or two before falling into the arms of a proud mom, but by the end of the night Nate had worked himself up to an amazing 8 steps!
First Halloween

Nate really seemed to enjoy his first Halloween. His blue 3-eyed monster costume won first prize in the 0-2 age group at the YMCA, and he loved stomping around outside Halloween night watching all the kids come and go.

We weren't ready until now to let Nate move down the hall to his crib in his own room. He fought falling asleep in there a little, but he ended up sleeping through the whole night.
First Backyard Campout

Nate might not have lasted in the tent all night, but we all had a blast at our first attempt at backyard camping. We can't wait to try again next year, and maybe venture beyond the backyard.

Nate first went swimming in Nana & Papa's backyard pool. He was a bit afraid at first, but ended up enjoying himself once the water got a little more comfortable. He splashed around, kicked his feet and even did a little doggy paddle.
Commando Crawling

Nate is on the move! He's figured out how to commando crawl all over the floor on his tummy. He uses one foot to push off and both arms to pull himself along.

First Trip to the Beach

We traveled to Provincetown, MA with Diane & Annette to give Nate his first beach experience. He got to feel the sand between his toes, and the sea breeze on his face.
First "Solid" Food

Nate got his first taste of solid food, namely rice cereal. Granted it was mostly milk with just a few rice flakes floating in the bowl, but it was served up with a spoon.

Nate celebrated his first Easter in Buffalo at Aunt Lori & Aunt Brenda's apartment. No worries, the Easter Bunny found him there and left him a basket full of eggs and toys.

Nate's had the front to back roll down for months, but finally figured out how to flip back that other way. We found him in his crib snoozing on his belly this morning.

What could be funnier to a little boy then blowing raspberries? Maybe it's the funny face, or the funny fart noise, or the fact that spit and drool go flying. Whatever the appeal, Nate sure thinks it's great. Now that he's figured it out there's no stopping him.

Nathaniel has a new-found control over his hands. He's studying them and playing with them all the time. He folds them, wrings them together, and brings them up to his face for a closer look. Cool!
First Christmas

Nathaniel spent his first Christmas in White Plains at Grammy & Grampy's house. Nathaniel made everyone handprint ornaments to celebrate his first Christmas. He received lots of presents and a few Baby's First Christmas ornaments too.

Nathaniel gave Sharon his first real smile while all snuggled up in bed. His grin started with a little smirk on one side of his face and soon spread from ear to ear. Too cute!

Nathaniel got to meet Mimi and Grandpa Marano for the first time on his trip to White Plains. With Grammy there too, we had four generations of family together. With so much family to love him, Nathaniel is one lucky boy.

We didn't plan on Nathaniel making his first trip to White Plains until Christmas time, but sometimes plans change. Thanks to a nasty ice storm that knocked out our power, Nate got to make his first trip to New York a little earlier than expected. Grammy and Grampy didn't mind a bit.

Nathaniel rolled over for the first time while he was playing on his Rainforest Activity Gym. He rolled over from his tummy to his back all by himself. He looked so pleased with himself, and we were so proud.
Sleeping Through the Night

Nate slept through the night for the first time. He fell asleep late (around 12:45) but slept through until after 6:00am.
First "Real" Bath

We gave Nathaniel his first "real" bath in his own tub. Something we couldn't do until his umbilical cord fell off. We thought maybe he would like it better than the sponge bath we have been giving him, but we were wrong. He was pretty miserable.
First Meal Out

Nate went to Friendly's for his first meal out at a restaurant with Mommies, Aunts Lori & Brenda, and cousin Jessie. He was on his best behavior as we all ate. No fussing, crying or stinky diapers. He didn't even need his bottle. Maybe he was holding out for ice cream. He'll have to be a little bigger before he can enjoy his own Conehead Sundae.

Aunt Lori made her much anticipated arrival the day after Thanksgiving. Nathaniel had to wait far too long to meet her, but she made up for it by cuddling, snuggling and spoiling him rotten the entire weekend.

Nathaniel got to meet his Great Nana Bixby for the first time on Thanksgiving Day. She seemed to like him an awful lot, even if he doesn't look like Peter or Brian.

Grammy and Grampy got to be Nathaniel's first babysitters when Sharon and Jacqui had to make a trip to the Emergency Room. We hated to have to leave him so soon, but Grammy and Grampy were more than willing to have some alone time with Nate.

Grammy and Grampy took the train up from New York to have their first visit with Nathaniel. After waiting so long to see him, they held on to him all night long.

Sharon gave Nathaniel his first sponge bath in anticipation of Grammy and Grampy's visit. He didn't seem to like being wet and cold while we sponged down his little body (he fussed the whole time), but for some reason he loved getting his hair washed.

We got discharged from the hospital on Saturday morning around noon and headed home. We came home with a lot more than just Baby Bean so we were happy to have Nana Bixby, Auntie Merry, and Uncle Evan's help.

Nate took his first car ride home from the hospital in the back seat of the VW Beetle. He slept the whole way while Jacqui drove v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y.

Nathaniel wore his very first outfit from home on the way out of the hospital. Sharon dressed him in the smallest baby blue footie pajamas we had (they were still too big), and his owl sweater that Aunt Donna knitted him.

Aunt Merry and Uncle Evan made a trip to the hospital to visit Nathaniel. They brought along Merry's Pound Purrie Lefty and gave Nate's Pound Puppy his official name "Marshmallow."

We celebrated Nathaniel's birth day in our hospital room Thursday evening. Since Jacqui did not end up having time to make Nate the birthday cake she planned on making him, we celebrated with chocolate cake ordered from the hospital cafeteria.
